us scholars

We offer Fulbright grants to American Scholars to Denmark. All American Scholars interested in applying for a Fulbright grant to Denmark must go to the CIES homepage: www.cies.org to read about the general rules about citizenship, length of stay, academic level, etc. for a Fulbright grant, and the country specific demands for Denmark.

Past experience has taught us that it may be difficult to establish the right type of of contacts and to navigate in a different and foreign system. Therefore we encourage you to make use of our help in the application process, if you need help to establish contacts and in general to create a good and viable project for your Fulbright application. Please contact our advising: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We look forward to hearing from you!

To learn more about Danish educational institutions and opportunities taught in English, please go to: www.studyindenmark.dk . This is the official government site about studies in Denmark.

Our grants are always subject to revision for fiscal reasons. For the best and updated version of the grants we offer to Denmark in a specific year, you must check with www.cies.org, but here is a brief overview:

Fulbright Chair in American Studies: A one year position that is rotated among Danish university level institutions based upon a free and open competition.

Fulbright Chair in Human Rights & Political Science: A one semester position with the prestigious Danish Center for Human Rights and Political Science. Alternates between Human Rights focus and political science focus.

FUHU-Fulbright Scholar: A two month grant to Danish “handelsskoler” (municipal business college type institutions) rotated to different Danish institutions after free, open competition. Teachers from American municipal colleges are especially encouraged to apply.

Fulbright Senior Specialist Program: The Danish-American Fulbright Commission participates in this program. For a full list of the American scholars in Denmark in this academic year click here

Inter-country Travel Grants: Approximately 250 American lecturers and researchers representing a variety of academic fields participate in the Fulbright Scholar Program in Europe. Thus, a specialist fitting your department's teaching may be close by. Danish higher education institutions may apply for a travel grant from the Fulbright Commission to support short, approximately week long visits by American Fulbright lecturers placed at a country other than Denmark. Please note that an application for participation in Conferences will only be succesfull provided that the visiting Scholar plays an active role in the Conference like presenting a paper etc. Participation alone does not suffice.

The list of American Fulbright scholars in Europe for the academic year 2010-2011

This list includes information provided by those European countries that participate in the Inter-Country Travel Grant Program (not yet listed: Cyprus and France). Detailed scholar information is available on the Fulbright Commission website of each country.

Worldwide Scholar Directory
A list of each year's American Fulbright scholars in the world is available through the Council for International Exchange of Scholars' website at http://www.cies.org/us_scholars/us_dir.htm.

Expenses
The Fulbright travel grant will cover the visiting lecturer's airfare from the host country using the most economical fare. The Danish institution is expected to cover other resulting expenses. The inter-country lecture visit must take place during the American lecturer's Fulbright grant period.

Application Procedure
The host institution identifies a suitable lecturer from the list of American Fulbright scholars in Europe for the current academic year. If the host has not had previous contact with an interesting scholar, the Fulbright Center may initiate contact on host's behalf.

Danish institutions should send an Inter-Country Travel Grant application and a possible invitation letter to the Fulbright Commission. It can also be e-mailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

After the grant has been awarded, the Danish host is responsible for making the visit arrangerements directly with the visiting lecturer.

US Scholars to Denmark 2011-2012 will be announced on this page later this summer.
