Earth Day 2010
As people in the United States and around the world gear up to celebrate Earth Day in a couple of weeks, State Alumni is highlighting what alumni are doing about the environment.

Please visit State Alumni (https://alumni.state.gov/home/news--discussion/alumni-spotlight-environment) to view news and photos of alumni environmental activities. You will also find tips on simple things you can do to help protect the environment.

We encourage you to share to share your own story of environmental activities in which you have taken part or that you helped to organize. When posting photos or news article, please be sure to type "earthday2010" into the keywords field.

State Alumni Upgrade: Networking Features Enhanced State Alumni has enhanced the way you view your profile, your network, and those you may know on State Alumni. After logging in, look for your profile box containing "My Communities," "My Profile," "My Network," and "You May Know..."

We encourage you to use these features to network with other State Alumni members. We also encourage you to complete your own profile so that others may network with you. To control what information others can view about you, go to the "Account" tab of your profile.

FulbrightWeb.org Becomes the Fulbright Community on State Alumni!
We are pleased to announce the transition from FulbrightWeb.org to a new Fulbright Community on State Alumni. The community will bring together current Fulbright program grantees and Fulbright alumni, and will serve as the program's professional support network for the nearly 300,000 Fulbright alumni worldwide. All Fulbrighters past and present are invited to register for State Alumni and may go to http://exchanges.state.gov/ or https://alumni.state.gov/ to do so.

FulbrightMail.org email accounts, replacing existing FulbrightWeb.org email accounts, will also be available to Fulbrighters registered for the State Alumni website. Alumni who previously had FulbrightWeb accounts and current State Alumni members should have been notified of their new address already.

A Message about using blogs, Facebook, and other Internet-based media

Dear Fulbrighters:
With the growth of blogging and social networking sites in recent years, Fulbrighters have had more opportunity than ever to share their experiences with friends, family and the Internet community. This in turn brings positive attention to the Fulbright Program and its impact not only on the Fulbrighter but the host community as well. Recognizing the reach and impact of these media, the Fulbright Program has partnered with mtvU for a number of U.S. student awards that showcase the power of music. Each student writes a blog, which is posted on the mtvU website.

We are also in the process of launching an official Fulbright page on Facebook, to compliment the myriad Fulbright groups already on Facebook.Should you decide to share your Fulbright experiences publicly via web-based media (and we hope you will), there are a few points that you should keep in mind:
1. Avoid confusion by acknowledging that yours is not an official Department of State website,and the views and information presented are your own and do not represent the Fulbright Program or the Department of State.
2. While participants in all U.S. State Department-sponsored academic exchange scholarships have full academic and artistic freedom to write, publish and create, they are also expected to maintain a standard of conduct that is in keeping with the spirit and intent of the Fulbright Program – to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.
3. Any Fulbright grantee who posts inappropriate or offensive material on the Internet inrelation to the Fulbright program may be subject to revocation or termination of their grant. Be aware that what is deemed culturally acceptable in the United States (or, more specifically, on the Internet in the United States) may not be received well overseas. Describing the challengesof living in a foreign country is fine, but please refrain from using disparaging language to describe the country you are in and the people you live and work with.Thanks for your understanding.
