The Einar and Eva Lund haugen Memorial Scholarship

The Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Study (SASS) is pleased to offer the Einar and Eva Lund Haugen Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is intended to support outstanding graduate students whose doctoral dissertation examines a Scandinavian or Scandinavian-American topic in History and the Social Sciences. Scandinavia is defined as the five countries of the Nordic region: Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland. The grant can be used for all aspects of dissertation work.

Preference will be given to those who need to conduct research in archives and libraries or fieldwork in places remote from their home institutions.

The stipend for use during the period 1 June 2011-31 May 2012 is $4,000.

Applicants must be enrolled in a doctoral program in North America. They must be members in good standing of the Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Study, both during the year in which they submit applications and in the year of funding. A successful applicant must prove completion of course work and preliminary requirements for a doctoral degree before receiving the grant. After completion of the period funded by the scholarship, a recipient will be invited to give a short report at the next annual meeting of SASS. The application deadline for receipt of application materials for the 2011-2012 scholarship is 15 November, 2010.
